Hi beautiful bellas,
Springtime has finally arrived!
That means it’s September (YAY it’s my birthday tomorrow) already and boy, did this year fly by so fast. It feels like just the other day I started wearing makeup, had a baby and started blogging. On that note, my angel is already a year old. Isn’t she just too adorable?
So this is the first time I’m sharing my monthly favourites. A lot of these products I’ve owned for a while but with winter making me lazy and trying to get my skin to not to flake all over the place from dryness, I found myself relying on a lot of these products to get me through those days. So without any further ado, let’s get started.
First up, the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water. With winter draining the moisture out of my skin, using the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water as a primer beneath my makeup really boosted some moisture back into my skin. No dry patches, smooth application and hydration is everything I needed. The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water contains no silicone, no oil and no alcohol so it’s great for sensitive skin. I then used it afterwards to set my makeup and while it’s not the best setting spray I’ve used, it does give a semi-dewy finish, removes any extra dryness after applying my makeup and locks it in place for a good few hours. There’s only two downsides to this setting spray for me. The instructions are to hold it 8cm away from the face and with the fine mist that comes out, I usually have to spray about four times, once on each quadrant of my face, to get even coverage and for the spray to cling to my skin. That results in me using way more than I expect to which brings me on to my second downfall which is the price. Yes 116ml is a lot of product but at R400 ($30) a pop, this a very expensive setting spray and I’ve had greater experiences with ones for less. So whilst I’m thoroughly enjoying the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water for now, chances are slim that I might be repurchasing it.
Then my new holy grail BB Cream. Wow, I seem to be discovering a whole lot of new holy grail products recently. The LA Girl BB Cream in ‘Medium’ is my everyday go to coverage even for functions. The consistency is a bit thicker than other BB creams I’ve tried (almost like a gel texture) and I like that because even though it’s medium coverage, I’m able to build and get full coverage on the days that I need it. I apply it with a damp beauty blender and I’m able to sheer it out in places if need be for a more natural look. The shade also matches my skin tone perfectly giving me radiance without any ashiness. It is super long-wearing but if you have oily skin then you have to set it with powder to prevent it from moving as the day progresses. The best part of THIS baby on the other hand is its price. You get 30ml of product for just R60 ($4) and with 8 available colours in the range, you’re sure to find a shade that suits you. And as I mentioned here, Dischem are having a special where if you purchase 3 LA Girl products, you get the cheapest one free. I took advantage and purchased 6 of the shades for my makeup kit 🙂 It’s a cruelty-free product which some clients might ask for but with its added ingredients of Vitamin B3, C and E, it nourishes the skin and leaves it looking flawless with a semi-matte finish.
Once I use the BB Cream to even out my skin tone, I use the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in ‘Rose’ to highlight the high points on my face and pop a bit of colour on my cheeks. This product is so versatile and has a boost of shimmer to illuminate my face for a candlelit glow. Plus everything about is just so gorgeous. From the sleek outer black packaging, to the 5 horizontal shades of white to nude to pink, I am absolutely smitten with it. It is a bit pricey at R640 ($47) but a little goes a long way.
Then with winter mornings being dull, dreary and me not wanting to get out of bed (Just 5 minutes MOM!!!), I’ve been very lazy and faking the wide awake look using the Rimmel 24 HR Scandaleyes Jumbo Liner and my HG mascara, Benefit’s Roller Lash. I store my eye liner pens upside down so I’ve only had one dry out before, but just a few swipes with the Rimmel Scandaleyes Jumbo Liner allows me to get a perfect flick to elongate my eyes and the lengthening power of the Benefit Roller Lash gives me a wide-eyed, babydoll effect. The Rimmel Scandaleyes Jumbo Liner retails for R90 ($7) at Dischem and the Benefit Roller Lash can be purchased for R295 ($22) at Red Square.
It has been fun to do a roundup of my products and the only thing I’d change around is my lipstick for the day. We’ll see with Spring bringing newfound energy and earlier sunrises if I change it up as the month progresses.
Hope you enjoyed this post.
What have your August favourites been?
