I’m sure by now you’ve seen hundreds, if not thousands of blog posts and videos featuring the NEW Benefit Brow collection. While the collection includes 45 products, some of them have been repackaged and introduced new shades but there are actually only 13 new products. That’s still a lot of items just for eyebrows and it caters for everybody, from sparse brows to dark skin.
The Benefit Brow Collection was launched exclusively online at Red Square on the 1st of this month. I usually try to swatch/test items before I purchase but I just could not wait for today. Instead I played it safe and just ordered one of the kits which is better value for money. Since they were including a gorgeous tote bag with every 3 product purchase, I picked up two smaller items to make the cut. A deluxe sized Benefit Triple Perfect Face Emulsion (R85) which I tried and reviewed here and the Benefit All Purpose Sharpener which is part of the NEW Benefit Brow Collection.
Benefit Bold & Browtiful Kit – R475
The main reason I chose this kit was because I had always wanted to try the ABH Brow Pomade but never got around to it. When I saw the Benefit Ka-Brow in the throng of new products, it was an easy decision to make. There are three variations of this kit – Light, Medium and Deep. I chose deep based on the skin colour of the woman on the box but it’s also dependent on your eyebrow colour, hair colour or your individual preferences.
The packaging of the kit is very awesome. The first thing that came to mind when I picked it up was ‘lasagne tin’. Weird right? So the container is silver and red with a cartoon image of a female magician donning a top hat and wand over the Bigger & Bolder Brows sign. It’s so intriguing because it’s almost as if she’s going to say ‘Abracadabra’ and POOF! Brows are amazing. Let me tell you, it really is that easy.
Once you open the lid you are greeted with a red pool of stars enveloping the products. On the inner lid though, as sleek as the silver and red star frame looks, I wish they included a mirror to fill the space instead. Anyhoo, in the kit you get 3 full sized products as well as eyebrow stencils and a nifty tool to hold it with.
There are two stencils, one for arched brows and one for straight brows but I prefer to freehand it because using the stencils can be time consuming as I try to align it.
The star of the show is the Benefit Ka-Brow (R335). It is a tinted, cream-gel that’s housed in the cutest little pot. The lid resembles the turret of a castle and can be pulled apart and inverted to reveal a thin, tiny brush perfect for drawing little strokes. There are 6 shades available and I have shade 5 which is a deep, dark brown and matches my current eyebrow and hair colour to the T. The consistency of the gel is moist but not too runny and it is practically waterproof. If I apply it before work, my brows look exactly the same 10 hours later when I get home. The thin brush also allows for perfect precision while still looking natural.
The Benefit High Brow (R305) is not new to the table but has been repackaged to match the rest of the collection in matte silver with light pink writing. The formula is also creamier and more blendable. It’s a soft, matte pink that gives the brow bone an instant lift. I’ve used it in my waterline as well to give the wide-awake look and it looked stunning. I didn’t experience any irritation and it lasted a good few hours before fading. There is also a new shade called High Brow Glow which is a shimmering champagne-pink and I’d like to try that one out next.
Lastly contained in the kit is the Ready, Set, Brow! (R335). This clear brow gel tames brows and sets them in place for the entire day. In terms of formula, the cheaper drugstore alternatives do the same thing but I like that this one dries down quite quickly. The double sided wand also has finer bristles for more precision.
The products contained in the Bigger & Bolder Brows kit makes it great value for money as it is worth over R900. There are other kits available with the new brow products so definitely check them out if you want to try a few new items.
So as I mentioned earlier, I picked up the All Purpose Sharpener in order to get the cute tote bag. I always struggle with the cheaper ones breaking my pencil nibs off and wasting so much product. I tried this one on a few of my lip liners and crayons and it was super sharp so just a few turns was all it took. It also comes with a removable section to accommodate for all size pencils. It might look gimmicky but it’s become a staple in my collection.
Lastly I received a few samples to try out. I knew one of them would be the raved about Benefit Goof Proof (R335) pencil which was another item on my wishlist. The sample was quite tiny but I tried it anyway. The shape of the product is very similar to the ABH Brow Definer. It has a teardrop shape to provide accurate strokes and well groomed brows. The Benefit Goof Proof pencil just fell miles short for me. The texture is dry and you need to press really hard for the product to transfer and cling to the brow hairs. The shade was a bit off for me and looked too grey once applied. When swatched it resembles the shade of the Essence Eyebrow Gel I featured here but it didn’t look half as nice. Before I completely write this one off though, I’ll pop in to store and try the correct shade.
I also got a sample of the Gimme Brow (R335) but in the old packaging. This is a buildable brow mascara that clings to the brow hairs to make them appear more full yet still natural. There are now three shades available instead of just one universal one. I use this for a quick brow-over when I’m in a rush or want to keep it as natural as possible.
The last sample was the Benefit Porefessional primer which I reach for at least three times a week. It’s become my No1 favourite primer since my pores have gotten more enlarged and my skin is on the oilier side. There’s a reason it’s the fastest selling primer in the world and I can never have enough.
I hope this post gave you a little insight into the amazing things that the NEW Benefit Brow collection has to offer. All products are now available in store at these Benefit Beauty counters nationwide.
And guess what? You can still get your hands on the Benefit Magical Brow Tote bag when you purchase 3 items, one having to be a brow product.
