Sliding my fingers into the box, they trail over the soft velvet material that encases the Camélia de Plumes. Every time I see or utter those 3 words, I hear harps playing in my head.
Slowly lifting the velvet cover flap of the pouch, peeking out is a tiny flat angled brush, engraved with the Chanel logo that applies the powder ever so lightly.
The Camélia de Plumes highlighter is set in the traditional, black, square compact with the Chanel logo embossed in white at the top.
Upon opening the compact, I am greeted by a sight for sore eyes. The highlighter beams back at me with its golden shimmer and its etched framework of the camelia flower.
Chanel describes the Camélia de Plumes Highlighting Powder: “Illuminate cheekbones, eyelids or décolleté with a translucent veil of silver and gold. Inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s original Fine Jewellery creations, this precious, limited-edition accessory is embossed with a feather motif in the shape of a camellia.”
Ok, ok, enough with the fancy schmancy and down to business.
The velvet casing is the perfect accompaniment to both protect and carry the compact. I love that the brush is separate as it just adds bulkiness to the compact when it is not used. The highlighting powder does not have any smell, which I like and the texture is almost creamy in the compact and coats the skin like finely milled powder. When applied with the travel brush, it leaves just the right amount of highlight and shimmer atop the cheekbones.
The best thing about this highlighter for me is the tone. In the pan it looks very gold although when swatched, it is a bright, highly pigmented shade of silver. When I use it on my olive skin tone, it blends into a light silver gold mix that creates a long lasting sheen wherever it’s applied. It does emphasize pores if heavily applied and in the sunlight.
The light gold shade is best suited for fair to medium skin tones and it is more noticeable on darker skin tones.
Definitely one of the most luxurious highlighters I have tried and I wear highlighter every day. Even after using it about 30 times, my camelia flower is pretty much still intact.
