Happy Monday bellas,
It’s been a while since I posted a giveaway so today I have the Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette up for grabs. I’d been lusting after this ever since it got launched and thanks to a naughty friend (yes Ilona I’m talking to you) we placed an order for it. I’ve used it quite a few times over the last couple of months and here’s what I think of it.
About The Palette
Makeup Geek has partnered with popular beauty vlogger KathleenLights to bring you a limited-edition highlighter palette that includes three exclusive shades lovingly created by Kathleen.
“I’m so happy and in love with this highlight palette! I wanted to create three wearable shades that suit every single skin tone in one place! A shade for fair skin, medium skin and deeper skin tones! So, no matter who you are, you can rock these highlights and be glowy and beautiful! You can even mix them to create your custom shade! Hope you love it as much as I do!” XOXO, KathleenLights
The palette is housed in a white and rose gold customised sleeve with an image and the short message from Kathleen on the back.
The packaging of this highlighter palette is absolutely stunning. Keeping in trend with the Makeup Geek signature style of black and gold, the textured front cover is mesmirising to say the least. I actually prefer the way they accentuated the logo as opposed to the Manny MUA palette which I reviewed here. But alas, again no mention of the Youtube blogger they collaborated with on the front.
Even though the palette boasts 3 large pans, it is still slim and lightweight. The cardboard is sturdy whilst the magnetic closure makes it travel friendly.
Presenting three shades, one for each range of skin tone, makes the Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette perfect for any makeup kit.
Nightlight – light gold for fairer skin tones
Starlight – rosy pink for medium skin tones
Sunlight – soft copper for darker skin tones
However, I assume a fair skinned person would rarely reach for Sunlight whilst a darker skinned person might find Nighlight too white and ashy. Myself on the other hand, whom most would consider medium skinned, very rarely reach for Starlight. Nighlight and Sunlight have been my go-tos. So as versatile as this palette may seem, I much rather prefer the Makeup Geek individual highlighter bundles which cater 3 shades targeted at porcelain, fair, medium or dark skins.
The powders in the Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette are very soft. One of my shades arrived broken but I managed to fix it with some rubbing alcohol. It does have some kick up which I sometimes find annoying but nothing too bad where I feel I’m wasting the product. These highlighters are pigmented AF. Yep you read that right. One sweep of these highlighters can blind a room full of haters. It can look a bit drastic and fake so lightly dusting off the excess and using a fluffy brush such as the Morphe M501 is the best way to apply these babies. It does accentuate pores and uneven texture so a lot of people might not like it just for that fact alone.
The shades in the Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette are some of the longest wearing highlighters I’ve ever tried. By the end of the day, around 8-9 hours later, my highlighter game is still going strong with no inclination of fading.
Price & Where to Buy
The Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette retails for $39. I managed to snag it on special for $27 so that’s why I decided to get an extra one for a giveaway. You get 21g of product so in comparison to a Becca highlighter 8g for $38 or MAC 10g for $33, this is definitely more affordable. However in saying that, Makeup Geek singles are all less than $10 and not in the same league as MAC and Becca. Makeup Geek products can be purchased directly from their website here.
One of the most important things to note is that it emphasizes any skin imperfections. It works for me since I don’t get many breakouts on my cheeks but a lot of people who might have purchased this product don’t always have perfect, flawless skin. Then, while the concept to cater for a variety of skin tones is great, I find myself forced to mix shades since I don’t want to leave Starlight untouched. The upsides to this palette is that the formula is great, very pigmented and very long lasting, things we all look for when purchasing a new makeup product. Lastly, it’s affordable and great value for money for the high quality you receive.
