Happy Monday bellas,
With new ranges cropping up left and right, I thought I’d share with you some more affordable alternatives from sister brands Essence and Catrice. I’m sure by now you’ve seen some of the new launches from Essence and Catrice in stores but the Dischem close to me seems to be on the slow train right now. So far I’ve only picked up 2 products which I’ll do a quick review on but there’s so much more I’d love to get my hands on.
Essence Light up Your Face Luminizer Palette – R89
Both Essence and Catrice introduced new highlighting trio palettes to their permanent range. I opted for the Essence one because the Catrice Deluxe Glow Highlighter Trio felt chalky and was not as shimmery when I swatched it in store. The Luminizer Trio is housed in the clear, signature packaging with a see through lid. Nude is a semi-matte ivory for those who don’t like a lot of shimmer. Rose is a shimmer highlighter with a silver reflect. Golden Beige is a shimmer highlighter with a gold reflect. All the shades are finely milled, easy to blend and last 4-5 hours without a setting spray. If you’re looking for a subtle highlighter and variety, this one’s great because it won’t break the bank.
Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipstick – R45
Gosh I don’t know how many more times I can see the word matte before I freak out. Matte is described as being flat, dull and without shine. I initially went in to store to get the Matt Matt Matt lipglosses from Essence but when I swatched them they reminded me of the Revlon Ultra HD Matte lipcolour which never dries down. So I opted for the lipstick instead. There are 8 shades in the range and I picked up the colour 03 Wow Effect. What looked like mauve leaned more pink when applied to the lips. The formula is pigmented and moisturising but is definitely more creamy than matte. It’s therefore not transfer-proof nor long wearing. It’s pretty much similar to some of the older Essence lipsticks in terms of formula but for the price it’s not a purchase I regret.
And now on to the other new launches from Essence and Catrice. I saw the Little X-mas Factory collection whilst browsing and the eyeshadow palette caught my eye. It’s not generally colours I would lean towards but when I swatched them, they were soft and buttery. Definitely check this out the next time you’re in store.
The Catrice Contourious collection excited me when I got the press release but when saw it in store, I was so overwhelmed by the amount of products. They have a cream and powder contour kit. Brow shapers, cream and powder highlighters and even lip contours.
Essence have released a collection exclusive to Clicks stores. The Essence Love.Joy.Care range focuses on products perfect for pamper parties or just some ‘ME’ time. All the products either hydrate, groom or nourish depending on what you’re looking for. I’m in love with the super cute sleep mask with the eyelashes on them.
Lastly, Essence have brought their cute advent calendar to our shores. Containing 24 best sellers, you can either open it all at once or if you’re strong-willed, open up a different one each day. It retails for R425 but I’ve seen it marked down in Dischem to R375 which is good value for money considering the item’s worth. This is the perfect gift to yourself or a younger sister/cousin/niece just starting out with makeup.
Apart from the Essence Love.Joy.Care collection, Essence and Catrice products can be purchased from selected Dischem stores nationwide.
