New Year, New Goals

New Year, New Goals

Happy 2018 bellas,

I’m so happy to be back to blogging and hoping that this year will be better than the last one. 2017 for me was probably the crappiest year of my life. Without divulging too much information (sorry some things still need to be kept private), my family life, my career and blogging took some hard knocks along the way. The only thing that was positive was my fitness. I still suffer with my health, constantly having gut, bone and joint pains but I managed to turn my eating habits around and start exercising more frequently. I completely cut out dairy and gluten which was aggravating my acne although now during the festive season I must admit I was very naughty (in more ways than one).

I returned yesterday from an amazing family holiday in Durban. We spent 19 days on the beaches of Umhlanga and Umdloti with the best weather I’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t as humid as you would expect from Durban so both me (and my hair) were happy about that. Spending time together in a new place away from the regular routine of life really did us good. We bonded and got to make special memories with our kids that I will treasure forever. The downside to the trip and the reason for extending our stay was that my car broke down and neither the dealership or an ‘expert’ mechanic that we were referred to could find the problem with the vehicle. So much for fancy diagnostics machines and what not. My car is currently on a flatbed back to Joburg and I have no idea what I’m going to do with it or where to send it to be fixed.  Luckily my dad borrowed me his spare car so I’m at least still mobile.

Returning to work today, I realised that I wanted to set goals differently than I did last year. For interest sake, I set myself some hefty targets in this post to reach by the end of last year and I missed quite a few of the blogging related ones.

Weight target for end of 2017: 57kgs
Current weight: 60kgs

Surprisingly, I didn’t pick up any extra weight while on vacation even though I might have felt about 5kgs heavier. Most of it had to do with the fact that I was constantly active. Jogging with hubby, daily walks with the kids and lots of swimming helped with the Strawberry Pops, almond biscotti and pizza I was scoffing down. I use the Samsung Health App to track my daily steps and most days I struggle to reach the 5k mark. On holiday I easily did 12k steps daily and most of the time I didn’t even have my phone with me. I’m hoping to start attending more Park Runs weekly since running on the treadmill can’t compare to our jogs on the beachfront.

Blog pageview goal for 2017: 40k pageviews per month
Current pageviews: 42k pageviews per month

Instagram follower goal for 2017: 10k
Current followers: 7 175

Twitter follower goal for 2017: 1k
Current followers: 1 009

Bloglovin follower goal for 2017: 1k
Current followers: 768

Facebook like goal for 2017: 1k
Current followers: 683

Pinterest follower goal for 2017: 150
Current followers: 302

Apart from Twitter and Pinterest, my social media channels suffer constantly. I only enjoy using Instagram but with the new algorithm, I doubt people even see the content that I post. My pageviews hit an all-time high of 65k views per month with 18k unique views so I know I am able to grow my blog when I work at it constantly. However, for this year, I’m not setting any new targets or goals to achieve. I want to put as much time and effort in it as I can whilst still balancing my home life and career.

This year is all about ME. I realised that when I’m happy and focus on just doing what I feel like, when I feel like it, I’m happier with those around me. So it might be that I may not post regularly or there may be an influx of posts at some stages but I’m taking each day as it comes. I fell out with a lot of brands last year after speaking my mind about the products but I still maintain that this space is 100% honest and everything I write about is just for you. That will never change.

I, unfortunately, don’t spend as much money on makeup as I used to because it took me a long while to realise how addicted I was. Don’t get me wrong, I love makeup, even more each day but I’d rather spend the little extra money I have every month on sprucing up my home, going on family outings and saving up for another epic holiday. Because guess what, I actually do have too much makeup for just one person to use *wink wink*. I’ll be updating my blog sale soon with the gently used makeup I’d like to go to better homes. Lately I find myself reaching for what works the best on me and using that on the daily. I also want to start venturing into other spaces of the blogosphere so let me know if you would be interested in that.

It feels so exhilarating writing my first post for the year and I hope you enjoyed reading it. If you have a moment, please let me know what you love most about my blog, be it product reviews, brand reviews, DIYs or anything else. Thanks for stopping by and wishing you a fruitful year ahead.

Love you lots!
