So I’d initially planned to do a full week feature on one of my favourite budget brands but due to issues with my WordPress blog backend the last two days, I’ve postponed it until next week. Instead today I’ve decided to talk about a product that has been on the market for a while now but still somehow manages to make an appearance on my lips ever so often. I’m talking about the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers.
Neither a lipstick nor a gloss, the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers mimic the feel of a lipstick and the finish of a gloss. Let me tell you about the packaging first, a gorgeous tube with an ombre effect. With a black diamond-like, crystal shape at the top to the colour of the lip shade at the bottom. Not only is this really pretty, but it makes it loads easier to see which colour I’m looking for in my lip drawer. It has a doe-foot applicator just like any gloss but what makes this one completely different is that it’s hollow. This enables me scoop up way more product so I don’t have to dip multiple times, but I can turn it on it’s flatter side for thinner application.
The Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer formula is amazing in my opinion. It is just the right consistency to apply smoothly to the lips. It doesn’t bleed and it doesn’t have the stickiness a gloss does. Just one swipe makes my lips opaque. I find the lip lacquer to be neither drying nor hydrating on my lips. It does not dry completely so it does transfer easily when eating and drinking. Because of the satin, gloss finish, the lasting power is only about 2-3 hours, 4 at most for the darker shades that leave behind a slight tint. I usually opt for it more for colour and pigment than long-wear.
The shades I own are Phenomenon, a nude beige colour, Celestial, a dusty pink colour and Apocalyptic, a bright, magenta pink which is perfectly named. I usually do an ombre lip with Apocalyptic and Phenomenon placing the colours on the lip like so and rubbing my lips together to blend.
The Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer retails for R99 ($9) in stores but RunwaySale is having a 2 day special where you can pick it up for just R25 ($2) each and they have a load of colours to choose from. All you need to do is sign up using your Facebook details and hurry up before stock runs out. They also have specials on other face, eye and nail products so check it out.
