I have a tad bit more lipsticks than I’d ever like to admit. Whom I kidding? I should be sentenced to the guillotine for owning these many lipsticks. I guess in some way I find solace in knowing there are many of you who could put my collection to shame. Only a true makeup lover knows that there are 5 million different shades of red and that we possibly need most of them or else it could throw off the entire look we’re aiming for. If you have a man that knows that difference, then hold on to him for dear life I tell you. You’ll be getting some amazing prezzies in the future for sure. I’ve been struggling for years to organise my lipsticks in a way that is easy to reach for and quick to spot. I’ve tried tiered lipstick storage stands, grids and drawers and I still wasn’t completely happy.
I had been eyeing the organisers on the Lilli Makeup Boxes website for many months. I kept on procrastinating with the excuse that I didn’t have enough space on my dresser and never purchased anything. When I did over my beauty room, the lovely Esme, owner and self-confessed ‘Glamourholic’ behind the brand, contacted me to do a review. I jumped at the chance to finally try one of their amazing organisers. Since my struggle with lipsticks was my biggest issue, I opted for the Snapdragon.
The Snapdragon is the boss of all lipstick organisers. There’s a mini version, The Rose, that holds 48 lipsticks. This monstrosity holds a whopping 96 lipsticks. Not even the Zahra Beauty Tower I mentioned here holds that many. As soon as I got it I was surprised at how little surface space it actually takes up and what great quality the perspex is. The holder is so sturdy and well-made, it will last a lifetime. And since lipsticks are so lightweight, there’s no worry about dinging, scratching or breaking this organiser at any point in time.
I’ve filled my lipstick organiser to capacity with the lipsticks I reach for most as well as the ones I want on display. I like how I can fit the boxes of the limited edition items in the tower as well. Each side holds 24 lipsticks and rotates on the base so I can easily find the shade I’m looking for. One thing worth mentioning is that there’s a gap in the centre of the tower which each third vertical row leads to. Two things can be done in this regard, you can either store 8 longer lipsticks, glosses or mascaras on one side to push into this gap to make full use of the space. Or you can push in some artificial stemmed flowers to make it look more pretty which is what I’m thinking of doing.
So as I mentioned, I filled my Snapdragon up with lipsticks but still had no place to store my liquid lipsticks and glosses. I decided to purchase a second Snapdragon to help with my lipstick storage woes. I filled it up but as soon as I rotated it, the longer tubes started to fall out. I eventually gave up and removed all of them. The Snapdragon is best used to store regular-sized lipsticks and shorter tubes like the NYX butter gloss and deluxe liquid lipsticks.
The Snapdragon retails for R600 which I think is extremely affordable for this type of organiser. I’ve seen similar type ones going for over R2 000 which in my opinion is completely cray. Lilli Makeup Boxes do offer delivery throughout South Africa at an additional cost. You can shop the entire range of organisers on their website and whichever you choose to purchase, I can guarantee you amazing quality that you’ll absolutely love.
