UPDATE: The below mentioned highlighter has officially been released as Bronze Goddess. It is not a dupe for the Heat Wave highlighter. It is more bronze, less gold and shimmer. Click here for swatches.
Last year I was lucky enough to pick up the Estée Lauder Limited Edition Illuminating Powder Gelee in Heat Wave. It was part of the Bronze Goddess Summer 2013 Collection and is one of the most wanted highlighters worldwide. I bought it from The Cosmetic Company/Estée Lauder Head Office for just R380 ($32), a complete steal from its original R545 ($47) price tag. (You can read about the MAC bargains I picked up as well from them here).
The packaging is a luxurious gold compact with the Estée Lauder logo printed on top. It houses a mirror and sponge applicator so is perfect for on the go.
The highlighter is a tri-blend formula which means it is made up of powder, liquid and gel. The illuminating powder is a radiant pale gold colour that mimics the sun’s golden rays. Although it transfers like a powder, there is no fallout when applied, and is smooth, soft and easily blendable. It contains shimmer particles and not glitter so it gives the skin a subtle luminosity. I usually apply it with a fan brush to the top of my cheekbones for a beautiful golden glow.
It is a very versatile colour and formula so it can also be applied to the brow bone, cupids bow or as an eyeshadow. The powder is very pigmented so it is easy to overdo it but once applied the colour stays put all day long.
Estée Lauder has confirmed that they will be re-releasing Heat Wave in their Summer 2015 Collection (around Mar in the northern hemisphere). The only significant thing that has changed is the compact itself. It will now be launched in a circular packaging that holds less product but rumour has it the price won’t be changing at all.
To be honest I absolutely love the illuminating powder but think the original price is a bit steep. For those of you who really want the highlighter, I suggest you get it as soon as it is launched because users on eBay and Amazon are selling the first release Heat Wave for +$100 which is totally insane. If you’re after the gorgeous golden compact, then I’m sorry to say the new packaging is totally different, but like they say ‘It what’s inside that counts’, right?
Do you own Estée Lauder’s Heat Wave? Would you pick it up this time round?
LOTS OF LOVE
