One of the most frequent questions I get is how I purchase products internationally. Especially from brands such as ColourPop. Not only is it most of the time cheaper than purchasing from a third party seller, but it also opens doors to hundreds of more brands we don’t get here in South Africa. This week I’ll be breaking it down step by step for you so you too can take advantage of purchasing from overseas. I’ll be using ColourPop as an example throughout the posts so you know what it looks like if you choose to shop there. Don’t forget to subscribe to the blog if you’re not already so you don’t miss out on the other posts in the series.
Today we’ll be talking about the first and probably the most important step when purchasing internationally. How to create a Paypal account. I know some people are of the opinion that a PayPal account is not necessary. Well, I’m telling you, IT MOST CERTAINLY IS. First and foremost, it’s the first form of security when shopping online. It’s used by over 10 million merchants across 203 countries worldwide. Not only does it remove the need for passing over your banking details to sometimes unknown companies but it also prevents you from having to memorise your super long card number.
Before opening a PayPal account, I manually entered in my credit card details when shopping online, even locally. I can tell you firsthand, I worried from the second the funds left my account until the items were in my possession. With the amount of fraud, fakes and thieves out there, it’s nerve-wracking, to say the least. Then, I decided to create a PayPal account and now, the world is my shopping mall with not a worry in sight. The sign-up process is not swift by any means since they require you to provide and upload certain documents. These include proof of ID, proof of residence and a statement from your bank. In order to minimise fraud, you can see why these are needed. You are literally trading with the world. I know a lot of people that signed up, got to this point and gave up. Trust me, to create a Paypal account is honestly worth it.
Once your account is verified, keep your password in a safe place. This, along with your email address, is all you will need to start shopping online. Most companies have a PayPal button on the checkout page which automatically allows you to log on and complete your purchase swiftly.
Once you click the Paypal link, it will open up a pop up allowing you to login to your Paypal account.
A lot of times, since your shipping address is also linked to your PayPal account, you won’t even need to enter in your delivery address. Saving you time and money all at once.
To create a PayPal account, click on this link and fill out all the information required. There are quite a few steps involved with quite a bit of information required, but once it’s done, you won’t have to look at it again.
Now that you have successfully created a Paypal account, the world is your oyster. Whether you want to purchase makeup, clothes, gadgets, books or anything else be warned, I do not take responsibility for your bank account or any consequences arising from your shopping habits.
In the next part of this series, I’ll show you how to sign up with Aramex Global Shopper.
Love you lots and happy shopping!
