I hope you read the first part in this series and got around to creating your PayPal account. If you haven’t already and need some help, check out this post here. If you already have a PayPal account set up and are interested in shopping online internationally, then the next step is to sign up with Aramex Global Shopper.
Aramex is a freight forwarder. In other words, a middleman. Whatever you purchase will be forwarded to an address belonging to Aramex and they bring it to South Africa for you at an extra charge. They also deliver to recipients in Botswana and Namibia. Before I give you all the nitty-gritty details, let’s start with signing up for Aramex.
Head over to the website here and click the sign-up tab on the top right of the page. It will take you to the personal details page where you need to enter in some basic information i.e. Name, Mobile, Email, etc. It also asks you to choose a membership plan. AGS Basic is the one you want to choose if you want to order items occasionally. The once off lifetime membership charge is R150 but I have a discount code for free sign-up. AGS Flex will be for those who plan on ordering more than 10 packages in a year. Instead of the usual charge for every 500g in AGS Basic, AGS Flex then charges per 100g which is much more affordable if you know you are definitely going to be spending a lot of money over different shipments.
The next page is the shipping tab. This is your local address here in South Africa. Deliveries take place during business hours so you can enter in either your home or work address. Whichever is more convenient for you.
Lastly, is the payment tab. As you can see, PayPal is listed as the first form of payment. You don’t need to worry about signing in now since I have a discount code but you will be using it to pay for your shipments in future.
Once you enter in the discount code ‘100AGS018‘ and click apply, you’ll notice the total payment then revert to free. You can conclude the sign-up and wait for the welcome emails to arrive. The first email you will receive will be a welcome email summarising your addresses as well as other information pertaining to shipments and pricing. The second email will contain the 23 countries addresses from which you can shop and ship from. This will also be available on your online profile for ease of access.
Now that you have signed up for Aramex Global Shopper, it’s time to shop. Even though there are only 23 countries listed, remember that some companies already do ship to multiple locations even though South Africa might not be one of them.
In the next post to this series, we’ll be talking about how to select which stores to shop from. And yes, I’ll be talking about Sephora too.
Love you lots and happy shopping!
