I know it’s been quiet on the blog front for a while but I have a confession to make. It’s not that I didn’t have any content to put out but rather I’ve been preoccupied and lazy lately. I’ve been binge watching four seasons of Young & Hungry, The OA and Breaking Bad in almost all of my free time. It gave me a much needed break from reality and now I’m ready for action. Since that also means I’m two weeks behind on all my posts, I wanted to find out if you’d be ok with me pushing out more than one post in a day? I know it might get a bit crazy in your mailbox so be sure to subscribe via Bloglovin so you can also get the content in a daily post and read it when you’re not so busy.
Another thing I wanted to do is start making Mondays fun. I dread Mondays. All I want to do is sleep in and relax. Today I’m at home with the kids because they’re so terribly sick. I got up, showered and dressed and as I was giving them breakfast, my son started barking/coughing like crazy. I hate when parents send their sick kids to school so why should I not be considerate as well? I’m chatting so much today I went off topic. So in order to make Monday’s more fun for all of us, I’ve decided to do a different giveaway each week as I review the products and you can share in the excitement too. I want this to be for my loyal readers so anyone that uses giveaway accounts or unsubscribes will be disqualified from future giveaways. Fair no? The first giveaway will start next week so make sure you click this button and select follow.
Ok so now on to the finer things in life. If you saw my Instagram stories last week you’ll know I attended the Urban Decay launch at the Cocoon Lounge in Sandton. We were introduced to an array of new and repackaged items to suit a multitude of needs. Urban Decay is the type of company that listens to it’s consumers and acts on it to bring you exactly what you want. That said, I’ll show you the entire collection as well as give you my first impressions on the items I received.
The original Urban Decay B6 Vitamin Infused Complexion Prep Priming Spray is back on steroids. Packed with vitamins and antioxidants, use this anytime of the day to hydrate, prep and soften your skin. This one is made for all ages and skin types (men included) to give the skin a ‘wake up’ refresh during the day.
The Urban Decay Quick Fix Hydra Charged Complexion Prep Priming Spray is even more hydrating. I’ve been using it every morning before my makeup and I’m obsessed. I was initially very skeptical since I’m not a fan of coconut at all. The only time I eat or smell it is on a koeksister on a Sunday morning. The scent of coconut in the Quick Fix spray is subtle and refreshing. It does make my pores look slightly smaller but I do need to still go in with a pore minimizing primer as well. It also claims to improve the skin’s radiance of which I haven’t noticed any difference. This contains vitamin B3 (aka niacinamide) which is said to even skin tone and helps fade dark spots from the sun or acne. With continued use, I have high hopes for this one.
For me it’s become a much better alternative to MAC Fix+ in many ways. It primes my skin, hydrates to remove the cakey look and refreshes the skin thoughout the day. The best part is the fine mist because the Fix+ tends to leave droplets on my skin with it’s big pump. The only downside is this one is slightly more expensive and since it smells so good I will definitely finish it faster than a bottle from MAC.
The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion has reached cult status around the world. While it’s never floated my boat, it’s also never made me want to try any of their face primers… Until now. Urban Decay have launched 5 new complexion primers, each targeting a different skin concern.
The Urban Decay De-Slick Complexion Primer is targeted specifically for oily skin. It’s peach coloured formula blends in clear and keeps the shine at bay. It contains mattifying veegum (a natural clay derivative) and silica that leaves a matte but hydrating finish thanks to aloe vera. The only problem I have with this primer is that it melts into the skin so it doesn’t help with pores, lines, etc. The good part is all the Urban Decay primers can be layered according to what you need.
The Urban Decay Self-Adjusting Complexion Primer is absolutely amazing. I got to play with it at the launch and I was so impressed. The colour-correcting primer contains little beads of pigment that burst the more you massage it into the skin. It caters to every skin tone and has slight coverage leaving the skin looking natural and radiant.
The Urban Decay Bright & Tight Complexion Primer is for anyone wanting to do just that. It is a silicone based primer to smooth the skin, has hyaluronic spheres to moisturise the skin and an opalescent finish leaving the skin with a beautiful glow.
Now on to what I received. The Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer is already a favourite of mine. I used it for a friend that has more mature skin and it smoothed the skin out perfectly. When I use it, it blurs my pores and the fine lines around my eyes. It’s the type of primer that shaves a few years off even if you’re not wearing foundation. It can tend to look a bit ashy if you apply too much so I wouldn’t recommend it worn alone on darker complexions.
The Urban Decay Urban Defense Complexion Primer is a breakthrough in makeup and skincare. The clear sunblock with SPF 30 is a must for everyday use. It is a gel that feels similar to the Inglot Makeup Base and Smashbox Photo Finish Primer which I don’t like. Whilst it’s great to wear without having any whitish residue, it’s smooth consistency doesn’t hold my makeup and makes it slip and slide around within a few hours. I’ll continue to try it out and perhaps find I’m doing it wrong. Great concept, poor execution.
The infamous setting sprays have been repackaged into a darker bottle so those unsightly accidental makeup fingerprints are less visible. The variants are the same though. Developed in partnership with Skindanavia, these setting sprays are the go to for makeup artists worldwide.
The Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray controls oil, reduces shine and keeps skin looking matte.
The Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray cools the makeup on your skin and helps makeup last for up to 12 hours without settling into fine lines.
I did a review on the original Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray here and to date it is still the best one I have ever used. In my opinion, this is on top of my list of recommendations when purchasing anything from Urban Decay. I was so happy to receive this as I finished both my bottles already and haven’t yet restocked. Do yourself a favour and invest in this one first.
Just one last thing before we finish. Urban Decay have created a ‘cocktail menu’ for the products just like how you would mix your drinks. You can layer certain products to achieve specific effects. Check it out and let me know your thoughts. I think it’s absolutely brilliant and I want to mix up a storm.
Price & Where to Buy
All the products retail for R450 each except for the Urban Defence Primer which retails for R600.
