Three days in and the year is already looking better. Just a few more days before I start training and it might be a bit quiet on the blog front since I’m going to try to focus on studying more. If you not sure what I’m talking about and instead of me rambling my entire life story off again, you can check out this post here to fill you in.
So, one of the main things I am focusing on this year is getting my skin back to beautiful. I’m not trying to be conceited by saying that I’m beautiful or anything, because I’m just a plain ‘ol Jane, but for anyone who suffers with acne knows that you feel a million times better, more confident, less scared to be seen in public, etc when your face doesn’t look like you’ve just been stung by a hundred bees. Since taking Roaccutane for just over a month, my skin has slightly started to clear of acne but unfortunately has brought about skin dryness to the max. I’ve always had dehydrated skin because I don’t drink water daily which resulted in the foundation on my forehead flaking or fine lines on the lower half of my face. Talk about ten times worse since I started treatment.
I’ve tried serums, hydrating primers, masks and topical treatments and it has just been a waste of money. I’m I’ve found a few products in my stash that I’ve had for months and whilst they were good when I initially tried them, they have since become miracle workers in combatting dehydration and dryness in the last few months.
For a very long time I thought this product was just a gimmick. So many people rushed out and bought it but all I read were okay reviews and the consultants at Metropolitain Cosmetics telling me not to waste my money. When I saw the sample size available, I decided to take a chance and I was not disappointed. The little tube with just 15g of product seems so miniscule since this is a mask and needs to be applied to the entire face and décolletage. I kid you not, just a coin sized amount covers my entire face, I’ve used it about 7 times and it’s still not empty. It is a gel that once applied, sits on the skin for a bit before it is completely absorbed. I usually put it on before bed and sleep with it on so it can work it’s magic overnight. It doesn’t dry or pull the skin tight. I just cleanse and moisturise to get any excess residue off in the morning before I moisturise and my skin looks plumper and feels baby soft. This is definitely a splurge item because a full sized tub retails for R1050 but is great if you have very dry and dehydrated skin. They also have a SuperMud and YouthMud which help with breakouts and give skin radiance and glow respectively. All Glamglow products are currently available from Muse.SA.

This has become my favourite “dryness treatment” since I first began using it a good few months back. I initially began using it as an overnight mask which is it’s original intent and absolutely loved how my skin glowed, my flakiness disappeared and skin plumped up. During the winter months, as my skin became drier, I began using it as a day cream to prevent my makeup from caking. As the months got hotter though, my skin got oilier and this cream is very rich for everyday use. It contains ‘colourless carotenoids heal, calm, protect, control and slow the activity of tyrosinase – the enzyme that stimulates melanin production – working directly on melanin content within the skin cells, evening out hyper-pigmentation and lifting uneven skin tone. The Cross polymer papaya extracts also add to the exfoliating effect by lifting off the dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin. The mask also improves micro blood circulation thanks to the Olivine Stone Extract.’ I’ve since been using it just once a week as an overnight mask to give my skin a pamper session and restore it’s radiance and glow and every second day as an eye mask to hydrate my undereyes before applying makeup. It’s astonishing the difference it makes. It retails for R799 and is available from Red Cherry Cosmetics.
Dirty Works 8-in-1 Miracle Cream
I purchased this a while back during a Clicks haul which you can read about here. The cream is quite thick in consistency so I use just a little bit to not feel greasy. It tackles concerns such as improving skin firmness, brightening and hydrating to name a few. A great and affordable drugstore product at only R99.95.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream
I’m not even sure how I got my hands on this product because for the life of me I cannot remember purchasing it. Anyways, I’ve been rotating between this and the Dirty Works Miracle cream as my night-time moisturiser for the last three weeks. It locks-in moisture to provide long-lasting hydration and protection. I have noticed a considerable difference and the dryness in my face has almost completely disappeared except for my forehead. It’s getting there slowly but I can definitely attribute it to these two products. The Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream is priced at a steal for just R135.
So there you have it. My arsenal in combatting skin dryness and dehydration.
Have you tried any of these products? What do you use to overcome dry and dehydrated skin? Let me know in the comments below.
